  ~Newton Berry Bloodsworth ~

Newton Berry "Newt or Nute" Bloodsworth was born July 10, 1866 in Coffee Co. Al and he died on April 29, 1943 in Jay, Santa Rosa Co. Fl. at the age of 76.  According to his death certificate, he died of a cerebral hemmorage due to high blood pressure. His son Jay Bloodsworth was the informant and states that he was buried in Wallace, Escambia Co. Al. the exact cemetery is unknown, but I'm quite certain it's either the Old Wildfork Indian Cemetery (known today as Pleasant Hill Cem) or Hanberry Cemetery, both have family members buried in them.

Newton's parents are unknown at this time and none were listed on his death certificate. As far as I know, no birth certificate has been located for him either. He is not listed on any census unitl 1910, by then he's age 44.  He was married first to Ellen Baggett on July 17, 1884 in Henry Co. Al in the home of Nancy Kennedy. It is suspected according to recent DNA evidence, that Newton is somehow tied to the Kennedy family. It has been passed down through the generations to all Bloodsworth family members that Newton was f/b Cherokee Indian. Documents to the right > claim Creek Indian, but it's entirely possible that he was both. It's also known that the Kennedy line was Indian as well.  An oral story has also been passed down through the generations that states "an indian baby boy was left on the door steps of another family to raise". Many have questioned if that baby boy was possibly Newton and if so, is this the Kennedy connection?

Note of interest about Richard Kennedy is that he relocated to Henry Co., Alabma from SC, where they were counted among the Creek Indians and ran a school for Indians in Wild Fork. The school was still being run in 1930. One of Richard Kennedy's son's with wife Elizabeth Chavers has the middle name "Berry". Elizabeth's sister Sarah Chavers (Richard's mistress) named a son Newton, but he's not our Newton as this one was born in 1843, ours 23 years later.  The Nancy Kennedy in whose home Newton & Ellen were married in Henry Co. Al is Nancy Whitehead-Kennedy, wife of Dempsey Kennedy, Richard's son.

Ellen Baggett was the daughter of John Baggett, Sr. and Easter "Esther" Kirkland. No information for Ellen's father has been located other than his name. Easter is the daughter of William Kirkland (1792-1843) and Easter Kirkland (1798-1880). William married his first cousin Easter. William is the son of Benjamin Moses Kirkland, Jr. (1770-1837) and Easter is the daughter of Richard Kirkland (1774-1798).  Both Benjamin and Richard are brothers.

It's important to note that Ellen Baggett, wife of Newton Bloodsworth died on January 17, 1910 in Escambia Co. Alabama at age 40, giving birth to her 15th child, a precious baby girl named Elin Bloodsworth who was born on January 17, 1910 and died the same day. Ellen Baggett was a remarkable woman to have birthed 15 children by the age of 40 with only the assistance of a mid-wife, unlike the hospitals we have today to help us with that.
